Dark Sky License Plate
August 2026 Update.
The long-anticipated Dark Sky Utah license plate is getting closer. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the Utah State Parks leadership, and the DarkSky Utah Board have made progress together completing all the steps so DMV can put this on their website. This current image of the license plate is likely DMV’s final, but we are awaiting verification.
Our special group license plate situation is unique, since we (a non-profit) are helping organize funds that benefit a State agency. Complexities have arisen and been mostly overcome.
We will send the TC-203 forms already submitted on this website to DMV, which documents your interest. DMV will contact you for further information when they are ready.
Points 1 through 5 below still apply. We will contact you ASAP when the plate goes “live” on the DMV website, if you have signed up or expressed interest to us.

The cost will be the same ($47.50), which includes a $25 donation to Utah State Parks earmarked for dark sky programs.
You will sign up directly on the DMV website.
Only 250 applications will be required for production to start. 150 to 200 have already declared interest, so success is highly likely.
Again, we will contact all interested persons when DMV’s new procedures are in place.
Remember that after production begins, it will take some months for your plate to arrive.
